Hoppy Beverage Co | Valentine’s Day Calendar

Valentine’s Day Artwork for Japanese low-alcohol beer brand @hoppybeverageco. First produced in 1948 in Akasaka district in Tokyo in the post-war era. During this time beer was highly taxed so Hoppy was originally born out of necessity. HOPPY is now celebrated as one of the most iconic mixer beverages. The piece I was asked to create was to celebrate the month of February within Hoppy’s ongoing monthly calendar series they distribute across Japan. Yuki (Art Director, Hachikin Creative) kindly let me know about Valentine’s Day traditions in Japan, explaining it’s the busiest season for chocolate makers in Japan, as it is customary that women offer chocolates to people who they like/love; partners, co-workers, family and friends. Then these gifts are returned on White Day. I was tasked to create a chocolate shop & hoppy hub that celebrates this, based on the look of my illustrated shop fronts.
